Each entry describes the building, its shared rooms and the streets or ground around it, drawing on material published by the hotels themselves, on mapping services and on the press. There are no prices here, no stars, no reviews and no booking links, and nothing on these pages is placed in order of merit.

What an entry contains

Every entry follows the same order. One opening sentence says what the house is and where it stands. Two short passages follow, the first on the building and its shared rooms, the second on the ground immediately around it. Three lines of facts close the entry: the section it belongs to, its location, and the month the page was last checked.

How the sections differ

Capsule Hotels

Houses built around compact sleeping berths, with washing rooms, luggage lockers and sitting rooms shared by everyone staying there.

Art Hotels

Hotels where the fabric of the building, or the work shown inside it, is the reason for the entry.

Casino Hotels

Four Canadian resorts described here strictly as hotels: rooms, restaurants, theatres, spas and grounds.

Ice Hotels

Despite the section name, these are ordinary winter hotels in the Scandinavian mountains, not structures built from ice or snow.
